rentals

Every time I watch a stupid DVD movie I'm left with an emptiness feeling that only a deep meaningful rental can fill.

I'm sure the right intention was there when P.S. I Love You was written but they forgot to put it in the final version. And I wonder what the big mouth star had to say when her heroine character in 27 Dresses falls at the pinnacle of her LIFE? Ugh, so typical. Why doesn't the good looking male character ever trip and fall? Is it a scientific fact, that only women trip and fall?

Anyway, I finally watched August Rush and my son loved it. It's not stupid at all and I today I think I'll rent In the Valley of Elah. Thanks to the Red thing I can catch up on all the big Hollywood blockbusters for a fourth of the price at that other place. Yay!

we need them

Four women who love each other and are always supportive of one another. Through work problems, trouble with men and personal dissatisfaction, they have each other at the end of the day and in the morning. These women are Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, fictional best friends in Sex and the City.

I developed such a liking toward those characters that at the end of the series I missed them like I would miss my loved ones, my friends.

Like the women in SATC my friends and I share our deepest fears and aspirations. We seek advice from each other and vent when we're going through hard times and we make each other laugh. And yes, we also kiss and tell.

It is only with our closest friends that we share our most intimate details of our sex lives. We talk about our love lives with our husbands, boyfriends and men in general. We find comfort in the words we share together. And I found comfort in their friendship because they never let each other down. The script allowed them a fantasy like world where your friends are always your priority. Reality is friends move away, have children, get married and make new friends.

I was anticipating the SATC movie so much I cried at the sight of the first movie signs. Corny I know. I watched the movie twice and cried both times. Very corny, I'm aware of that.

The movie in fact was like a real long SATC episode. Nothing was left out but the overload sex talk and search of it. In a way it was a little more like Love and the City. The fantasy friendship made me wonder if my real life Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte would pack up and flee the country leaving behind their families and jobs in the time of an emotional crisis if I needed them?

Reality is, they wouldn't. And I just might prefer to recoup on my own. That's just me.

I read in an article that one thing a woman needs in her life to be healthy is a tight group of friends. The article referred to Carrie as the pack leader not being necessary as long as you have good dependable friends. Which is what I have. Friends I can talk to and get together with and are always only a phone call or e-mail away.

crime and punishment, jr.

One good thing about my daughter being grounded is I don't have to do all the cleaning. Not only does she take a load of the work as part of her punishment but it's easier to get her to do anything I ask. Is that mean? Is that slavery in my home?

In 12 days

Since my last post I had three unsuccessful tries at making the perfect chocolate chip cookies, the kids have been happy with my trying and they agree that I should keep baking them until I get the batch of cookies just right, there have been celebrity marriages and engagements, it has rained-which makes me wonder if the Chinese have been meddling with the clouds?-and I dreamed the craziest dream I ever had.

In the dream I was in L.A. and I think I was working as an usher at a party held at the building I used to work in but I was dressed fancy as the guests were and I remember feeling like there was no one in charge and so I took charge and led the party guests to a grand room with very high ceilings in which I could hear my heels as I walked on the marble floor in the Biltmore Hotel. They all lined up and followed me like children follow their teachers to the cafeteria. At some point Odie and I ended up in a black limousine with Hugh Hefner. Hef lay naked on me and I held him like a baby on my lap. Thank goodness I didn't see his wee-wee because his whole skin was wrinkled and it sagged. Or maybe I did see it but I'm traumatized and chose to forget it. You know what else is good? I don't remember feeling his body either. Could I remember that from a dream? Anyway, then he told me something very important, something I wonder and worry about so much it keeps me up at night. He told me that there is hope for eight ball hearts like mine. I never knew he could be so deep. Thanks for the words of encouragement! I looked over at Odie sitting across from us and gave him an "I told you so" look.

It is a strange dream because why of all people, did I find hope in Hugh Hefner?

no pressure. no fuss.

Nicole graced my tattoo collection with one of her own. It was the cherry on top of a happy sundae. A great Mother's day it was. It was meaningful, serene and oddly typical.

Given that my family is not one to plan, I don't expect anything elaborate on days like my birthday or Mother's day. But I am still disappointed when I get asked what I want to do for the day or what I want as a gift; I talk so much about what I want throughout the year, one would think the roof on our house would collapse with the hint bombs dropping. No one remembers those hints though. And a gift or present is something you give me, on your own without any pressure. Surely after so much time, my family could think of something I like. Teacher's understand.

Mother's day gifts made by children at school are the best. This year Nicole gave me a Mother's day coupon book. It's fabulous! Some of the coupons entitle me to two meals of my choice made by her, she'll make my bed for a week, and my favorite, she won't talk back to me for a week. Benjamin made me a card that says, "every day with you is like Disneyland". I joked and said it's true the way it's chaotic, they have to wait for food and sometimes I still have to take him to the bathroom. Every day I am given more time to be with my family, the ones I love the most in this world, is present enough.

That is why I am not one to make a big deal out of a marked holiday such as Mother's day. Every day is special and some days are celebrated unexpectedly for the little things. The little things are the things that matter. Every day I am a mother. So on calendar marked celebrating days, I think it should be the one's loved ones to make that day a celebrated one because I personally don't feel any different on Mother's day than I feel every day.

Like I told my husband and children yesterday, every weekend we're set to spend the day out, we come up with suggestions for how we should spend it and we contemplate lunch or dinner options, so if you want mother's day to be celebrated for me, come up with a plan and surprise me. That is truly meaningful. Meaningful like home made gifts and meals. Anything from the heart is appreciated. Just like I don't want to stuff my face with an over priced meal because we think we have to to fulfill the date, I don't want to be given a gift for the same reason.

Always expect the unexpected. And always expect to repeat your desires. This year I told Odie I wanted flowers for Mexican mother's day. Instead he gave me a beautiful card with a painted flower on it and eventhough it doesn't fill my glass bottles, I love it. Will they plan something different next year? I don't know, but as long as we're together and my kids keep their promise not to fight at least one day out of the year, I know I will be happy.

TMI?

A couple of weeks ago I started using allergy relief eye drops. They helped much. My eyes weren't itchy or watery. They didn't feel like they were on fire. The eye drops also relieved me from sneezing and my nose, ears and throat were not itchy. Today however, they were not as effective. The eye drops must have not traveled south to my nose ducts so I've been walking around with a roll of toilet paper in my hand, ready for the attack of gunk; a bounty paper towel goes a long way also.

The biggest dilemma of today is not my allergies but our female dog not being spayed. Soldier, is the name of the dog with ovaries, and our male dog DJ are becoming quite friendly if you know what I mean ;). Sera sera. But that's not only a dilemma today, it has been and it will until she gets spayed or pregnant.

Tuesday a mouse went AWOL while I was feeding our snakes and I thought Traveler, my daughter's cat, would take care of it. When I walked back into that room on Thursday and was greeted by the stench, I knew he hadn't. Odie and I have cleaned out the entire room, every nook and cranny was checked and we didn't find it. So that is today's dilemma. Ugh... if we don't find it, the real dilemma will come when the toxic smell starts to travel through the door ways.

Are you disgusted? Sorry, I'm just blogging. It helps to blog, like it helps to vent.

How about those gas prices eh?

what do you think?

I put an [x] next to the ones I have watched and it turns out there are a lot of movies I have to watch. I'm kidding, I'm not interested in all the movies on this list. In average I have watched a fifth of the 300 titles on this list and will probably try to watch a third more.

Some newer titles gathered from lists from The NY Times and Time Magazine included:

2000: Amores Perros
2000: Traffic [x]
2001: Y Tu Mama Tambien [x]
2001: Waking Life
2001: Shrek [x]
2001: Sexy Beast [x]
2001: Monsters Inc. [x]
2001: Mullholand Dr. [x]
2001: The Gleaners am I
2001: Amelie [x]
2001-03: The Lord of the Rings [x]
2002: City of God
2002: Adaptation
2002: About Schmidt [x]
2002: Gangs of New York [x]
2002: The Pianist
2002: Talk to Her [x]
2003: Finding Nemo [x]
2003: Pirates of the Carribean [x]

I'm not sure I agree so much with these newer titles. In my opinion, a few were only better than good.

Overall Citizen Kane seemed to be voted the best film ever made. Given that I haven't yet seen it, I can't give my opinion. But I have definitely put it on top of my "to watch list".
